Weathervane
noun
– a revolving pointer to show the direction of the wind, typically mounted on top of a building.

The title of the exhibition refers to the Bob Dylan lyric in Subterranean Homesick Blues (1965), ‘You don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows’. But unlike Dylan, whose lyric is contextualised within broader societal struggles surrounding the American civil rights movement, my reference  is personal and microcosmic. This collection theatrically employs the language of still life and landscape painting to stage melodramatic and tragicomic scenes, where I reflect on my autobiographical experience living between geographies and the irresolvable tension at the emotional intersection of concurrent  lives lived. Weathervane explores the emotional distance inherent in this liminal everywhere/nowhere-space and  a futile yet enduring desire for human connection.
